ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Milk substitute

Hey there buddy! Do you know what milk is? It's a drink that comes from cows, and it's very good for you. But some people can't drink milk because it makes them feel sick, or they might be allergic to it. So, they need something else to drink that's just as good for them. That's where milk substitutes come in!

Milk substitutes are drinks that are made to be like milk, but without the milk part. They can be made from lots of different things, like soybeans, almonds, or even coconut. These drinks are usually called "milk" too, but they might be called something else, like "almond milk" or "soy milk."

Now, let's talk about how these milk substitutes are made. Let's use almond milk as an example. First, you take some almonds and soak them in water for a while. Then, you grind up the almonds and water together until they turn into a kind of milk. You strain out any bits that are left over, and you're left with almond milk!

Milk substitutes come in lots of different flavors too. Some taste like vanilla, or chocolate, or even strawberry. And, people can use milk substitutes to cook and bake with, just like regular milk.

So, even if you can't drink milk, there are still lots of yummy and healthy drinks you can enjoy as a substitute!
