ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mine action

Mine action is like when you clean your room. But instead of picking up toys and clothes, grown-ups go to places where there are landmines. Landmines are dangerous things that people put in the ground to hurt other people. They can't be seen because they look like rocks or dirt.

The grown-ups who do mine action are very careful and wear special clothes to protect themselves. They use tools to dig in the ground and find the landmines. Then they take them out of the ground and make sure they are not dangerous anymore.

Sometimes, they go to places where there was a war a long time ago. People who used to live there might not remember where the landmines are. So the grown-ups have to use special machines to find them. Then they can take them away and make the place safe again.

Mine action helps people who live in those places because they can walk and play without being afraid of stepping on a landmine. It also helps animals like cows and goats because they won't accidentally step on a landmine and get hurt.
