ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Misdemeanor

A misdemeanor is when someone does something that is not very good, but it's not as bad as a bigger thing called a felony. It's like when you break a toy, it's not as bad as breaking a window, but it's still not good.

Sometimes people do things like drive too fast or steal something, and these are considered misdemeanors. It's not good to do these things, but they are not the worst things someone can do.

If someone does something that is a misdemeanor, they might get in trouble with the police or have to pay a fine, but they usually don't have to go to jail. It's like getting a time-out, it's not fun but it's not the worst punishment either.

It's important to try to be a good person and do things that are right, so we don't get in trouble for doing something that is a misdemeanor or worse.
