ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mixed radix

Mixed radix is a way of writing numbers using different "bases". To understand what that means, let's take a look at how numbers are usually written. We all know that we can write numbers using the base 10 system, which you may know as the normal system of writing numbers like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on.

The mixed radix system is different because it allows us to write our numbers using multiple different bases. Instead of always using base 10, the mixed radix system uses other numbers (called radices) as the base. For example, one radix might be 5, while another might be 8.

Using the mixed radix system, we can write numbers like 5-8-3-5, with each number representing a different base. In this example, the first part would be 5, representing the base 5 system, the second would be 8 representing the base 8 system, the third would be 3 representing the base 3 system, and the fourth would be 5 representing the base 5 system.

By using the mixed radix system, we can write numbers in a way that is easier to remember and keep track of.
