ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Model release

Let's imagine you're drawing a picture of me and you want to show it to other people, like your friends or your family. But you need to make sure it's okay to do that. That's what we mean by a "model release".

A "model release" is a special paper that says I'm okay with you showing the picture of me to other people. It's like getting permission to use something that belongs to someone else.

Sometimes, people take pictures or videos of other people and then use them for things like ads or commercials without asking if it's okay. That's not very nice and it can even get them in trouble!

So, if you want to take a picture or video of someone and use it for something, you need to get their permission first. That’s a model release. It just says that the person in the picture or video is okay with you showing it to other people.
