ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Monocarpic

Okay kiddo, so monocarpic means that a plant only flowers and produces seeds once in its life before it dies. This is different than other plants that can flower and produce seeds multiple times in their life. It's kind of like how some insects, like mayflies, only live for a short time and reproduce once before they die. Monocarpic plants usually put a lot of energy and resources into producing a lot of seeds when they do flower, so they can make sure they leave behind enough offspring to continue their species. Does that make sense?
