Mooring

Alright kiddo, have you ever seen a big boat at a dock or by the shore? When the boat wants to stay still and not drift away with the wind or waves, it needs something to hold it in place. The thing that holds it in place is called a mooring.

A mooring is like a really big anchor that's hidden under the water. It's attached to a rope or chain that comes up to the surface of the water and is tied to the boat. The rope or chain keeps the boat from drifting away.

Some moorings are permanent and already have the rope or chain attached to them. Other times, the boat will bring its own rope or chain to attach to a mooring that's just a big metal loop attached to the seafloor.

Mooring helps keep boats safe and in place so they can be loaded and unloaded, or just sit and enjoy the views. And now you know how it works!
