Mootness

Mootness is when something doesn't really matter anymore because things have changed or happened already. It's like if you wanted ice cream, but now the ice cream truck has already left and you can't get any more ice cream, so it doesn't really matter anymore that you wanted it.

In legal terms, mootness happens when a case or a question that a court was supposed to decide doesn't matter anymore because things have changed. Maybe the person who brought the case no longer has a reason to sue, or maybe the thing they were asking the court to decide has already happened, so it doesn't really matter anymore what the court decides.

When something is moot, it means that it's not really worth talking about or worrying about anymore because it's already happened or can't be changed. So if a court decides a case is moot, it means they won't make a decision on it because it doesn't matter anymore.
