Mortar (firestop) is a special kind of material that is used to stop the spread of fire from one place to another. It fills in the cracks and crevices around things like walls, doors, and windows, so that if one side of the wall catches on fire, it won't spread to the other side. Mortar firestop is made out of special materials like minerals, cement, and plastics, which are safe and won't catch on fire very easily. The mortar is spread and pressed into the cracks to make sure the fire can't spread.
