When a mommy has a baby in her tummy, sometimes the mommy can have more than one baby at the same time! This is called a "multiple birth." This means that instead of having just one baby, the mommy has two, three, four or more babies at the same time!
Multiple births happen when the mommy's body releases more than one egg and each egg gets fertilized by a sperm. This can happen naturally or with the help of medicine like fertility treatments.
When the babies grow in the mommy's tummy, they can either be in separate sacs or they can share one sac. If they share one sac, they might also share a placenta, which is like a special pillow where the mommy gives the babies food and oxygen.
Having more than one baby at the same time can be very exciting, but it also means that the mommy and daddy need to prepare extra for taking care of all the babies at once. They might need more diapers, more food, more toys, and more hands to help! But it's all worth it because they get to have multiple little bundles of joy in their family.
