Murder hole

Okay kiddo, imagine you're playing hide and seek with your friends. You're hiding in a really small space and you can see your friends coming, but they can't see you. That's kind of like what a murder hole is, but much more serious.

A long time ago, people used to build castles with a special hole in the ceiling or walls called a murder hole. The hole was small and usually hidden, and it was used to attack invaders who were trying to get inside the castle. The people in the castle would wait until the invaders were right underneath the hole, and then they would drop hot oil, rocks, or weapons down onto them. This made it almost impossible for the invaders to get inside.

So, a murder hole is a small hole in a wall or ceiling that can be used to attack invaders or protect people in a castle or fort. It's called a murder hole because it was often used to kill people who were trying to invade a castle. Thankfully, people don't use murder holes anymore because it's not very nice to hurt people, even if they are trying to invade your castle!
