ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Myoclonus

Myoclonus is when your body suddenly jerks or twitches without you wanting it to. It's like when you're trying to fall asleep and you suddenly feel like you're falling, so your body jerks awake. But with myoclonus, it can happen when you're awake, too.

Some people might have myoclonus just once in a while, but others might have it a lot. It can affect different parts of your body, too, like your arms, legs, or face.

Lots of things can cause myoclonus, like certain medicines or diseases. Sometimes, though, doctors don't really know why it happens.

Myoclonus might seem scary, but it's usually not dangerous. If you have it a lot or it's bothering you, though, you can talk to a doctor who can help figure out what's causing it and what to do about it.
