ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Named entity recognition

Named entity recognition (NER) is a way for computers to understand and categorize words or phrases in a certain text. It’s like a game of finding things in a text. For example, the computer might look for people's names, places, dates, or other words that are important to understanding the text. The computer will then label each important word or phrase with its category (person, place, date, etc.). This makes it easier for the computer to understand and answer questions about the text.
