Nanotoxicology

Nanotoxicology is the study of how tiny particles, called nanomaterials, can affect humans and the environment. Nanomaterials are particles that can be smaller than 100 billionths (1 nanometer) of a meter. A nanometer is so small that you can’t see it with our eyes. Nanomaterials can be used in everyday products such as sunscreen and clothes, or in medical treatments, like making drugs stronger or helping them get to parts of the body they normally can’t reach. Nanomaterials are really useful, but we need to be careful of how they can affect our bodies and the environment. Nanotoxicology studies how nanomaterials can get into our bodies and how they might be toxic, or potentially dangerous to our health. It also looks at what we can do to make sure we are safe when using nanomaterials.
