Negative integer

A negative integer is a whole number that is less than zero. It is called "negative" because it is less than zero and represents a value that is going down. To help think of this more easily, imagine a thermometer that's being used to measure the temperature. If it reads -5, this means that the temperature is five degrees below zero (which is a very cold temperature!).
