ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Niche (architecture)

Hey kiddo,

Do you know how every animal has their own home and place they like to hang out in? That's kind of like what a niche is in architecture. It's a special spot or area in a building that's designed for a specific purpose or use.

For example, think about a kitchen. The cabinets, stove, and sink are all designed to fit together in a specific way to make cooking and preparing food easier. That's a niche - a space that's meant for a specific activity.

Or, imagine a cozy reading nook by a window with a big cushion and a lamp. That's also a niche - a spot that's designed for someone to sit, read, and relax.

Architects design buildings with lots of different niches, so that people have specific areas to do different things in. And just like how animals have different homes for different reasons, buildings have different niches for different activities.
