ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Numerical control

Numerical control is a way that people use computers to control machines. Do you like playing video games? Well, imagine controlling a machine as if you were playing a really advanced video game - that's what numerical control is like!

Using computer programs and special machines, people can create designs and instructions for the machine to make things like car parts, toys, and even big buildings. The computer program sends signals to the machine to tell it exactly where to move and what to do. This makes it really precise, so the things that are made with numerical control are usually very accurate and high quality.

Using numerical control allows people to make things much faster than they could by hand. It also means that they can make lots of copies of the same thing without any mistakes. So, it's kind of like magic: you put the design into the computer, and the machine does all the hard work of making the object. Pretty cool, right?
