Numitron tubes are like little screens that can display numbers, but they are made in a different way than the screens you may be used to.
First, imagine that you have a bunch of tiny little light bulbs in a row. Each bulb can light up by itself or with others to make a shape or a number. Now imagine that each of those little light bulbs has a piece of wire attached to it, and when you connect that wire to electricity, the light bulb will light up.
Numitron tubes work kind of like that, but with fancier technology. Instead of light bulbs, there are tiny little tubes that contain gas. When that gas is charged with electricity, it glows and can display a certain number or shape.
The reason they are called "numitron" tubes is because they are specifically designed to display numbers. They have a bunch of tiny numbers inside, each made out of glowing gas. When you send electricity through the right wires, the gas will start to glow in the shape of a number.
Numitron tubes were used in things like clocks or calculators, where it's important to show numbers quickly and accurately. Even though they are an older technology, they are still used today in some applications, like in equipment for gas pumps or fuel dispensers.
