ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Oar

Oars are like really big spoons that people use in boats to move them through water. Just like how you use a spoon to scoop up your cereal and put it in your mouth, people use oars to scoop up water and push it behind the boat to help it move. It’s kind of like rowing a boat! Oars are made out of a long stick with a flat blade at the end that goes into the water. The rower holds onto the oar handle and pushes it backwards and forwards to move the boat. Without oars, people would have a much harder time traveling on water!
