ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Obi (sash)

An obi is a very long and colorful belt that people in Japan wear around their waist. It's like a big ribbon that wraps around your tummy and ties in a knot at your back.

Obis are usually worn with kimonos, which are special clothes that people wear on special occasions like weddings, parties, and festivals. Obis come in lots of different colors and designs, and some are even embroidered with beautiful patterns or special symbols.

When you put on an obi, you have to wrap it around your waist a few times to make it tight, and then tie a big knot at the back. Sometimes it can be a little tricky to tie, so you might need some help from a grown-up. Once your obi is on, it helps to keep your kimono in place and makes you look very beautiful and fancy!
