Obsessive compulsive disorder

Okay kiddo, so you know when you really, really want to do something, like eat a piece of candy, and you can't stop thinking about it until you finally do it? Well, some people with a thing called obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have these kinds of feelings and thoughts all the time about different things, like washing their hands.

For example, let's say someone with OCD has a fear of germs, and they feel like they need to wash their hands a certain way or a certain number of times to feel clean and safe. Even if their hands are already clean, they just can't stop thinking about washing them more and more.

Now, here's where the "compulsive" part of OCD comes in. This means that someone with OCD might feel like they have to do certain things, like washing their hands, or checking if the stove is off, or arranging things in a certain order, over and over and over again. They might know that what they're doing doesn't really make sense, but they just can't help it.

People with OCD might also have certain thoughts that keep popping up in their head, even if they really don't want them to. These thoughts can be scary or weird, and the person might feel like they have to do certain things or rituals to make them go away.

So, basically, obsessive-compulsive disorder is when someone has really strong feelings or thoughts about things, and they feel like they have to do certain actions or rituals because of those feelings or thoughts. It can be really tough for people with OCD to deal with, and they might need help from a doctor or therapist.
