Okay kiddo, so you know how computers work, right? They use electricity to do all sorts of really cool things like play games, watch videos, and help you do your homework.
Well optical computing is a different way that computers can work. Instead of using electricity, it uses something called light. You know how when you turn on a flashlight, you can see the light coming out of it? That's the same kind of light that optical computing uses.
Now, imagine that instead of having just one flashlight, you have millions and millions of tiny flashlights all working together inside a computer. These flashlights are called lasers, and they're really good at sending light signals really quickly.
The light signals can do all sorts of things that electric signals can't. They can travel much faster and farther without losing any energy, which means that optical computers can work a lot faster than regular computers.
And because light signals don't produce as much heat as electric signals, optical computers can also save a lot of energy, which is good for the environment.
So, in short, optical computing is a different kind of computer that uses light instead of electricity to do really cool things really fast!
