ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Overhead cable

Overhead cable is like a long, thin rope that is made of metal wires. It goes up high in the air and is attached to big tall poles called towers. The cable is used to carry things like electricity and telephone signals from one place to another.

If you imagine a big city like New York, there are many buildings and houses that need electricity and telephone services. But instead of having lots and lots of wires crossing over the streets and getting tangled up, the wires are raised high up on these metal cables that are supported by the towers.

Think of it like a really long clothesline with lots of clothes hanging on it. The clothesline goes up really high so the clothes don't get in the way of people walking on the ground. Similarly, the overhead cable raises the wires so they don't get in people's way and can safely carry things like electricity and telephone signals over long distances.
