ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parental leave

Parental leave is time off that parents can take from their jobs when they have a new baby or adopt a child. It is a way for parents to take care of their children when they are the most vulnerable and need extra attention.

Just like how you sometimes need a break from school or your favorite activities, parents need some time to rest and bond with their babies.

Parental leave can vary depending on where you live and where you work. Some countries have laws that require companies to provide paid leave for new parents while others do not have any requirements at all. Your employer may also have their own policies on parental leave.

When your mom or dad takes parental leave, they can stay home from work for several weeks or even months. During this time, they can take care of you and your needs, like feeding you, changing you, and playing with you. They can also rest and recover from giving birth or adjusting to a new family member.

When they are ready, they will go back to work and might need to spend more time away from home. It can be hard, but it's important to remember that your parents love you very much and always want what's best for you.
