ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Park by wire

Okay kiddo, have you seen a toy car with a remote control? You press the buttons on the remote and the car moves. Similarly, some cars have a system called park by wire. Instead of a physical gear shifter where you move a lever to put the car in park, park by wire uses buttons to shift gears.

When you press the button that says "park", the car's computer system sends a signal to engage the parking brake and lock the transmission in place. This helps keep the car from moving when you're parked, even if you're on a hill.

Park by wire is also used for other gears, like reverse and drive. So, next time you're in a fancy car with park by wire, remember it's like using a remote control for the car's gears!
