ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parking garage

A parking garage is like a big house for cars. Just like you have a room in your house to park your bike or scooter, cars need a big room too. But instead of just one car, a parking garage can have many cars, even hundreds or thousands!

The garage is divided into many floors, just like your house might have different levels or stories. Each floor has many spaces for cars to park. Think of these spaces like slots or boxes where the cars can fit in. The spaces are marked with lines to show where each car should be parked, just like how you might have a specific place to put your toys or clothes in your room.

When you arrive at the garage with your car, you drive up or down the ramps to find an empty space to park in. If all the spaces on one level are full, you go up or down to another level. Once you find a space to park your car, you turn off the engine and go do your business, just like you would get out of your scooter or bike and go play with your friends or do some homework.

Sometimes when you are in a hurry or you forget where you parked your car, it can be hard to find it in the big parking garage. That's why some garages have signs or numbers to help you remember the location of your car. Just like how you might put a label on your toy box or clothes to keep track of them.

And when you are ready to leave the parking garage, you pay a fee to the person in charge, just like you might pay someone money for the candy or toy you bought at the store. Then you drive out of the garage, and that's it!
