Parvenu

Okay kiddo, imagine you're at school and you're playing a game where the cool kids get to sit at the front of the classroom. You've always wanted to be one of the cool kids, but you never got the chance before. Then one day, you do something really awesome and the cool kids start to invite you to sit with them at the front of the classroom.

That's kind of what being a parvenu is like. It's when someone who was once seen as lower class or not very important, suddenly becomes rich or powerful or popular. They've worked really hard and done something impressive, and people who used to ignore them or treat them badly, suddenly start to pay attention and want to be their friend. So a parvenu is someone who used to be seen as not important, but now they're seen as pretty cool.
