ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Per-pixel lighting

Per-pixel lighting is a way of making lights and shadows look more realistic in video games, movies, or other 3D animations. It works by looking at every single pixel (tiny dot) on the screen. The computer looks at the position of the light in the game and how it's hitting the surface of the pixel. The computer then changes the color of the pixel based on how the light is hitting it. So, instead of just having flat, solid colors, you can see how the light changes the color of the object, like in real life!
