ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Person having ordinary skill in the art

Alright kiddo, so you know how different people have different skills and know how to do different things? Like how you're really good at drawing and your friend is really good at playing soccer.

Well, when it comes to inventions and technology, there are also people who have a certain level of knowledge and skill that we call "persons having ordinary skill in the art". This just means that they know a lot about that particular field, and can come up with solutions to problems that are considered common and expected by others in that field.

So when someone creates an invention or technology, it's important to consider whether it would be obvious and easy for a person with ordinary skill in that field to come up with the same idea. If it would be, then it might not be eligible for a patent or other legal protection.

Overall, it's just a fancy way of saying that there are people out there who know a lot about specific things, and we need to make sure that new inventions and ideas are really innovative and not just something that any ordinary person in that field could have thought of.
