A phlebotomist is a person who takes blood from people's bodies. They use a special needle and tube to take out a small amount of blood. They do this because doctors need the blood to check if you are healthy or if you have any problems with your body.
When you go to a doctor's office or a hospital and they need to take your blood, they will have you sit in a chair with your arm out. The phlebotomist will then put a tight band around your arm, which helps the blood to flow to your hand. They will clean the area with a special kind of soap to make sure it's clean and safe.
Next, they will take a needle and use it to poke your skin just enough to get into a vein. Veins are the tiny tubes in your body that carry blood. They will fit the tube onto the needle and the blood will flow out into the tube. After they have enough blood, they will take the needle out and put a band-aid on your arm.
Phlebotomists are very important because they help make sure that doctors have the information they need to help you stay healthy!
