ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Phonology

Phonology is like playing with sounds. You know how you like to play with your toys and make different sounds? Phonology is like that but with our voices.

When we talk, we use different sounds like "buh" and "puh" and "muh." Those sounds are called "phonemes."

Phonology is all about how we use these phonemes to make words. Think of it like building a tower. When we combine different phonemes, we get words, just like how you build a tower with blocks.

But phonology isn't just about making words. It's also about how we say them. For example, when we say "cat" and "kit," the only difference is the "c" and "k" sounds at the beginning. These sounds are called "consonants."

Overall, phonology is like playing with sounds to make words and figuring out how to say them properly. It's like having fun with your toys but with your voice!
