ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Phosphor

Phosphor is like special magic dust that glows in the dark. You know how stars in the sky twinkle at night? Phosphor can do that too! It's made of tiny little particles that can light up when they get excited.

When we shine a light on phosphor, the particles start to dance around and get really excited. They start to absorb the energy from the light and hold onto it. This is called "charging up".

Once the light goes away, those tiny little particles start to release the energy they've been holding onto, and that's when we see the glow. It's like they're having a big party and they just can't help but dance around and show off their shiny new colors!

Phosphor is used in lots of different things, like glow-in-the-dark stickers and toys, the TV screen, and even light bulbs! All of these things have tiny particles of phosphor inside that glow when they get excited by the right kind of light. It's like having a secret power that makes things light up when you want them to!
