ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Photodegradation

Photodegradation is when something is broken down or destroyed by light. Just like how sunlight can make colors on a shirt fade, light can break down certain chemicals so they don't work anymore. Think of it like a superhero using laser eyes to destroy a bad guy. But in the case of photodegradation, the light is like the superhero and the bad guy is the chemical that needs to be destroyed. This process happens naturally in the environment and can be a good thing, like when sunlight helps break down pollution in the air. But sometimes it can be bad, like when plastics break down and pollute the ocean. So, it's important to understand how light can affect different materials and how we can use it to our advantage or prevent it from causing harm.
