ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Physical law

Okay, so imagine you are playing in your backyard and you throw a ball up in the air. It comes right back down, right? That is because of a physical law. A physical law is a rule that says how things in the world work.

Just like how you can't eat ice cream for breakfast every day and expect to stay healthy, there are things in the world that just can't happen because of physical laws. These physical laws are like the rules that tell you how to play a game properly.

Scientists have discovered many physical laws that apply to everything around us, from the smallest particles to the biggest stars. These laws help us understand why and how things happen in a certain way.

For example, one physical law is the law of gravity. It says that everything that has mass, like you and me, pulls on everything else that has mass. This is what makes things fall to the ground and why planets orbit the sun.

Physical laws are important because they allow us to understand how things work and predict what will happen in certain situations. It's like having a magic crystal ball that tells you what will happen next - but instead of it being magic, it's all based on science and math!
