Plant

Okay kiddo, do you know what plants are? They are living things that grow from seeds and have leaves, stems, and roots. But do you know how they work?

Plants use something called photosynthesis to grow. This is when they take in air (which has a gas called carbon dioxide) and sunlight through their leaves. Inside the plant, there are tiny things called chloroplasts that take the carbon dioxide and use the energy from the sunlight to turn it into a type of sugar that the plant can use for food. This sugar is called glucose.

Plants also need water and nutrients to survive. The roots of the plant soak up water and minerals from the soil. The water travels up through the plant and helps the leaves make even more glucose through photosynthesis.

And did you know that plants can reproduce? They can make seeds which can grow into new plants. Some plants make fruits that have seeds inside. When animals and insects eat the fruit, they spread the seeds around and new plants can grow in different places.

Plants are very important for us and the planet. They produce the oxygen we need to breathe and they help clean the air we breathe. They also provide food for animals and humans. So next time you see a plant, remember how amazing they are!
