Platt Amendment

Okay kiddo, let me explain the Platt Amendment to you. So, a long time ago, the United States wanted to help Cuba become an independent country. But after helping Cuba fight Spain in a war, the United States wanted to make sure that Cuba would become a friendly country for them.

So the Platt Amendment was a set of rules that the United States wrote for Cuba to follow. Some of the rules were that the United States could have a naval base in Cuba called Guantanamo Bay, and that the United States could intervene in Cuban affairs if they needed to. That means that if the United States didn't like something that was happening in Cuba, they could step in and change it.

Overall, the Platt Amendment gave the United States a lot of power over Cuba, and it wasn't completely fair to the Cuban people. It was like a big brother telling a little brother what to do. But eventually, the Platt Amendment was removed from the U.S.-Cuba relationship, and Cuba became more independent.
