Plug-in electric vehicle fire incidents

Okay kiddo, so you know about cars that run on gas, right? Well, there are also cars that run on electricity called plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). They have batteries that help them go and they don't need to fill up with gas like regular cars.

Now sometimes, these batteries can get very hot and if they get too hot or damaged, they might catch fire. Just like how if we leave something in the oven for too long it can catch on fire.

But don't worry, car manufacturers work really hard to make sure that they build PEVs that are safe and won't catch on fire. They test them a lot to make sure they work properly and they have safety systems in place so if anything does go wrong, it can be handled quickly and safely.

There have been some incidents where PEVs caught fire, but they are very rare. When it happens, the fire department comes right away and puts out the fire just like they would do with any other fire. Car companies also investigate right away to figure out what happened, so they can make improvements and keep people safe.
