Polytheism

Polytheism means believing in and worshipping more than one god. It is the opposite of monotheism, which is the belief in and worship of only one god. In polytheism, people believe in many gods that have their own powers and characteristics. For example, the ancient Greeks and Romans believed in gods like Zeus (the god of thunder), Poseidon (the god of the sea), and Hades (the god of the underworld). Each god was responsible for different things, like creating rain or protecting people from harm. People in polytheistic religions would often pray to one or more of these gods, hoping for good fortune and protection.
