ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Posttraumatic growth

Posttraumatic growth is something that can happen to people after a traumatic or difficult experience. It is when people learn to cope better, become more resilient, and see the positives in their lives in a new way after a difficult experience. For example, after a traumatic event, like a car accident, a person might become more aware of how precious life is, and start to appreciate and take better care of themselves. They might also become more in tune with their feelings, and become more compassionate towards others who are facing similar challenges. This newfound strength can help people to cope, grow, and move forward in a positive way.
