A power station is like a giant battery that makes electricity. It has big machines called generators that are turned by something called a turbine. A turbine is like your bicycle wheel but much bigger, and it is turned by something like steam, water, or wind.
The steam or water is made hot by burning coal, oil, gas, or using nuclear reactions. The hot steam or water makes the turbine spin round and round, like a fan, and the generator inside the power station turns that spinning energy into electricity.
The electricity made in the power station is sent through big cables, called transmission lines, to homes, factories, and schools so we can use it to turn on lights, cook food, and watch TV.
Just like how you need to charge your toys or phone, a power station needs to be kept running by adding more fuel, water, or fixing things that break. This helps keep the lights on and everything running smoothly!
