Okay kiddo, do you know what grass is? Great! So imagine a really big patch of grass called a prairie. It's so big that it goes on for miles and miles like a giant green carpet.
On the prairie, there are lots of different kinds of plants and animals that live together. There might be wildflowers, bushes, and tall grasses that sway in the wind. Animals like prairie dogs, bison, and even cows might roam around grazing on the plants.
The prairie is also really important for the Earth because it can help our planet breathe. You see, all those plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen back into the atmosphere, just like how you breathe in air and breathe out carbon dioxide.
But sometimes people cut down the prairie to make room for buildings or farms, and this can make the air less clean and harm the animals that live there. So it's important for us to try and protect the prairie and all the plants and animals that call it home.
