ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Profession

A profession is kind of like a grown-up job that someone does when they grow up. When you're little, you might want to be a firefighter, a doctor, or a teacher when you grow up. Those are all professions! Basically, it's just what someone does for work when they're all grown up.

But being a professional means more than just having a job. It means you've trained and studied really hard to be really good at your job. For example, a doctor has to go to school for a long time to learn how to take care of people's bodies and figure out what's wrong when someone is sick. They have to study a lot, take tests, and practice with other doctors before they can start helping people on their own.

In order to be a professional, you also have to act in certain ways. Professionals are very responsible, and they have to follow rules and do things in a way that's safe and fair for everyone. So being a professional is like being a grown-up who takes their job really seriously and knows how to do it really well.
