Prohibitionism

Prohibitionism is a big word that means some people believe that certain things should be illegal to do or have.

Let's say you have a toy that makes a lot of noise and your mom doesn't like it. She might want to make a rule that you can't play with that toy anymore because it's too loud. That's kind of like the idea of prohibitionism -- people want to make rules to stop other people from doing something they don't like.

Back in the old days in the United States, there was a time when some people didn't like it when others drank alcohol. They thought it was bad for people's bodies and made them do bad things. So they made a rule that no one could make or sell or drink alcohol. That was called Prohibition.

This went on for a while, but a lot of people didn't like it. They wanted to be able to drink alcohol if they wanted to. So eventually, they got the rules changed, and people could drink alcohol again.

Prohibitionism can seem like a good idea at first because it's trying to make things better. But sometimes, it can take away people's freedoms and cause more problems than it solves. So it's important to be careful when making rules like this.
