Protocol ossification

Protocol ossification is a term used to describe how a protocol or system can become inflexible over time. It happens when new features aren’t added or changes aren’t made to keep up with the times. This can make it hard for everyone to use the protocol or system because it gets so old and out of date. Think of it like a tree trunk: over time the tree’s trunk turns from a young, flexible tree trunk to an old, hard tree trunk that can’t move or bend. That’s what happens with protocols and systems too, they get harder and harder to change over time.
