ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Public bodies

Okay, so you know how there are people who work together to make rules and decisions that affect a lot of other people? These people are called public bodies. They are like a big team that helps to make things better for everyone.

Public bodies can be different things like schools, hospitals, libraries or even the government. When you hear the word "public" it means that anyone can use or benefit from these places, not just certain people.

Now, public bodies have a lot of responsibility because they have to make sure they are doing what is right and fair for everyone. They have to follow rules and laws that are put in place to make sure they are treating people equally and fairly.

For example, a public school has to make sure that all children have the chance to learn and grow. They can't just give special treatment to certain kids or leave some kids out. Everyone has to be treated fairly and given the same opportunities.

Public bodies also have to be accountable, which means they have to explain their decisions and actions to the people they serve. This helps people to understand what's happening and to know that the public body is doing its job well.

So, public bodies are like big groups of people who work together to make things better for everyone. They have to follow rules and laws to make sure they are treating people fairly and they have to be accountable for their actions.
