ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Quantitative comparative linguistics

Quantitative comparative linguistics is a way to study how language is used in different cultures. It looks at the differences and similarities between different languages, and tries to find out why those differences exist. For example, if English and French both have the same word for 'apple', then you might want to know why they chose the same word, or if they have different words for this, then why that happened. This helps us understand different cultures better by looking at how they use language.
