A real-time operating system (or RTOS for short) is like a brain that tells a computer or device what to do. It lets the computer or device know when to start and stop different tasks, and it helps make sure that tasks are finished in the right order. An RTOS can also tell the computer or device how fast to do a task—for instance, if something needs to be done by a certain time, the RTOS can make sure it's completed on time. The RTOS makes sure that different parts of the computer or device are working together correctly and efficiently.
