Alright kiddo, so let me tell you about Redeemers. They were a group of people in the United States that worked to redeem, or save, their government from the people who were in charge after the Civil War ended.
You see, after the Civil War, there were some people who wanted to help the people who were formerly enslaved and make sure they had more rights. Other people, called Redeemers, did not want this to happen. They wanted to go back to how things were before the war, when the people who owned slaves were in charge. They didn't like having to share power with anyone else.
So, the Redeemers worked to take over governments in Southern states by convincing people to vote for them. Once they were in power, they created laws that made it harder for Black people to vote or hold political office. They also created laws that segregated or separated Black people from White people in many different parts of life. This was called Jim Crow segregation and it made life very difficult for Black people.
Eventually, as people started to realize how unfair these laws were, they worked to undo them. But for a long time, the Redeemers held a lot of power in Southern states and made life difficult for a lot of people. We have to remember this history so we can work to make sure everyone has equal rights and opportunities.
