ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reverse freedom rides

Okay kiddo, do you remember learning about the civil rights movement? Well, during that time, black people were fighting for their rights to be treated equally and to be able to sit anywhere they wanted on buses, like the white people could do.

But now, imagine if some people started doing the opposite of what the civil rights activists did. Instead of fighting for freedom and equality, they wanted to stop black people from having the same rights as white people. This is what we call reverse freedom rides.

The original freedom rides were when civil rights activists traveled on buses through southern states to challenge segregation. But reverse freedom rides were when people who didn’t want integration would organize trips to fight against it.

This led to a lot of conflicts and violence because people who believed in segregation didn't want to give up their control. It was a very sad time in our history, and it's important that we remember it so that we can continue to fight for equality and justice for everyone.
