A ringfort is an ancient type of fortification. It is made up of a circular wall of stones that surrounds an area, like a castle. Inside the wall, people used to live and store their food and other possessions. The walls were usually made of thick stone and stacked very high to protect the people inside. People also built moats around the outside of the wall to stop enemies from getting in. Today, many ringforts can still be seen in countries like Ireland.
